Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach: the main beach in the area, Pattaya Beach proper, is a narrow, four kilometer stretch of sand which borders the major business and entertainment area of Pattaya City.

At high tide, the beach is very narrow and appears to be washing away. At many places on the beach, the umbrellas and chairs are only two to three deep. At low tide, it is not as wide as one might expect because of a sharp drop off. It is fairly close to the road, which is extremely busy, and on the other side of which there are rows of shops, bars and hotels, at least on the southern end.

There is a boardwalk between the beach and the road, with a walk way, benches, some grassy areas and some trees.

This helps provide some separation from the business part of the city. The beach frequently suffers from pollution but on nice, windy days, clean water crashes into the beach with refreshing power.

The beach provides guests a lot of opportunity to enjoy jet skiing, banana boating and other water sports – which proves annoying and even dangerous to other swimmers. Recently, the authorities have positioned chains of large florescent buoys in many areas of the beach basically to protect swimmers from marauding jet skiers.

This detracts from the aesthetic pleasures a beach provides but has probably been necessary due to a steady but unpublicized stream of jet ski injuries and fatalities over the years.

The beach is often crowded. It can be a good place to lounge, work on a suntan, chat with friends or rest. One can rent chairs and umbrellas by the day, and  can easily order food and drink. Beach massage is usually available. One can also run to fast food places or to a 7-11 if one wishes or needs to.
